Women in literature

Three matchboxes with women in literature, Virginia Woolf, George Eliot and Emily Dickinson. I really enjoyed making these! I love George Eliot's books, they are the perfect mix of love, drama and real life on the country on the Victorian era but given with great wit and insight. Woolf's books are more layered, her stream of consciousness is not easy to follow but very rewarding when you get into it. I have to admit that I haven't read a lot of Dickinson's poetry, just a few poems most notably her "Hope is the thing with feathers" which inspired me to make the cover of her matchbox :-)

Bookish

“The more I know of the world, the more I am convinced that I shall never see a man whom I can really love. I require so much!”
Jane Austen,
Sense and Sensibility

The weekend is a great chance to pick up a good book! And you can never go wrong with a classic like Jane Austen, her books are very entertaining, fun and full of emotions. "Sense and Sensibility" is one of my favorites, a story of two very different sisters and their views and approaches to life and love. It's been made into a movie too :-)

The bookmark is one of my faves, it;s in the shop along with others!

Have a great weekend,

Bunny ring holders are in the shop! These bunny rabbits are made from clay, hand shaped without the use of molds making each one unique. I painted them in pastel colors, light blue and pink, with rosy red cheeks and black eyes and nose. You can store your rings on their ears or use them for decoration!
I love how cute they turned out, hope you like them too :-)

hand painted clay house

These two clay houses are in the shop! I enjoyed making them so much and since they are one of a kind I got to be very creative with the paintings. I got to paint different versions of trees, vines and flowers and no two houses are the same!
Find them in our clay houses section :-)

In progress

A few more miniature portraits in progress! I'm not completely satisfied with all of them, I need to tweak them a bit before I move on to making the entire matchbox. They are Simone de Beauvoir and Edith Piaf, I;m happy with the first but even though I love how Piaf looks my sister confused her for Lucille Ball... So I'm thinking of maybe doing a portrait where her hair is longer? The other two are Agatha Christie and Louise Brooks, I like Brooks but I need to work on her lips a bit and unfortunately I'm not completely happy with Christie so I'll need to work on it more.

ps I love you card

diorama matchbox card

Today I'm making tiny little envelopes to fill with love notes! They are part of the matchbox diorama in the pics above. All our matchboxes are handmade from scratch, they are hand cut, hand folded and hand painted making them more unique :-)

This matchbox is painted to look like a vintage envelope and on the inside there is an envelope with a little piece of paper with the phrase "I love you". I think it's a pretty cute way to send someone your love!
You can find this one, along with all our matchbox designs in our Etsy shop!

Bead necklaces in progress

I do love the way the wooden beads look  before they are painted and after, especially the after looks like brightly colored candy! It's been a while since I added new things in our jewelry shop but there will be some new things in the coming days, new wooden bead necklaces in fun color combinations :-)

The whales

clay whales

miniature clay whales

Hi!
A bit of experimenting with clay and these little cuties happened! These three clay whales are a sort of prototype for me as I'm trying things out with their coloring, I find I prefer the light wash of color that brings out the sanded surface to the more uniform coloring. And now I need to figure out how to make their shape more consistent, even though this way each one is unique :-)

Matchbox ladies

matchbox dioramas

women in history diorama

famous women matchbox art

Hi!
I've had this idea in my head for a while, a sort of collection of matchboxes with a specific theme. I thought of various ideas and there were a couple that seemed more interesting and challenging to me. So here is the one that I picked: I'm making matchboxes with portraits of important women in history. Women that have left their mark in various fields through the years, from science to arts these women have one thing in common: their work is celebrated by all today :-)
Here are four matchboxes I've already made, Jane Austen, Amelia Earhart, Billie Holiday and Marie Curie. I'm hoping to make more and grow this collection!

A parliament of owls

clay owls
cute owl decor

miniature clay owls

Hi there!
I wanted to call these guys a gang but apparently a group of owls is called a parliament. Well this parliament is busy scheming plans on world domination for the googly eyed owls. You can find them in the shop, as they are made with no mold each one is a bit different but still adorable and cute :-)

Clay house ornaments

Hello there!
I've been MIA for too long, hopefully I'll be able to blog more on my creative endeavors!
My latest project was a first one for me: making little decorations to add to baptism favors (or bombonieres as they are called in greek). Working on custom requests is always challenging but when the end result justifies your hard work and makes the client happy well that's all that matters! These past two weeks we've been working on making these colorful clay houses to be added to the baptism favors and the result is as colorful and happy as I hoped :-)

We made 150 houses, painted them in various colors and finally used colorful cords to tie them. I was sad to say goodbye to my little village, I've been working on it for almost two weeks but I'm sure they will look fantastic on the favors!
I'm thinking of creating a listing in the shop, it is demanding when I have to deal with big quantities but I feel that I can manage and make it work :-)
Have a lovely day,
Aleka
