Strange butterflies

I was painting with the nephew yesterday and had this idea to make little paintings from folded paper. We would apply the paint on one side of the paper with our fingertip and then fold to create strange butterflies and other shapes. The result looks like a Rorschach test but more happy and colorful! Top photo are the ones I made and bottom the ones he made, can you tell he has a thing for red?

These paper birds are so awesome, little paper sculptures!
Wish you a lovely weekend,

Paper robots

I've been trying to find ways to keep my nephew busy when he finishes his school work, anything to keep him away from the tv. So one afternoon we decided to make robots, he loves transformers, watches the cartoons all the time.

This very angry looking transformer was made from a little medicine paper box, I ripped it apart and glued it so the blank side was showing. We drew the hands and legs, painted them with crayons and then glued them on the body. His face is drawn on the box flap and I used a white piece of paper to close the opening, gluing it on the other two side flaps (the kid wanted it glued shut so flies couldn't get in!)
The transformer is accompanied by a very colorful drawing of... you guessed it: a transformer, it's his portrait.

Wishing you a lovely day,
Aleka

The spinning top

A package arrived for me today!
It was this spinning top by the TheWanderingWorkshop and the first thing I did of course was to give it a spin!
The nephew will be also testing it but I'm sure he will love it, it just turns and turns like it will never stop :-)
Thank you so much Athina and Jose and Tina for hosting the giveaway,
xoxo

Monday moodboard - Kids edition

{1. skirt by yellOkids 2. plush cars by arch190
3. pencil case by 4happychildren 4. print by BarbaraSzepesiSzucs}

This time of year is the most magical for children, all the decorations, the lights, the presents and love in the air. I'm wishing the best Christmas for every kid in the world, it's wishful thinking I know but I do hope for more happy faces than sad.
Give your little ones a lot of love and hugs these days :-)

Monday Moodboard - Kids

{1. pants from arch190  2. vespa wall art from pitsispopis
3. ninja plushy from YumusakSeyler 4. bow tie from OliveAndVince}

We've spend the last four days babysitting our five year old nephew, his mom is away and his dad works pretty odd hours, so he lived with us. And I made the discovery that keeping a kid entertained for a whole day is hard work, combined with the heat I've had no energy to do anything else. His mom returns today and though it's been fun my work table has been waiting for me patiently :-)
Have a wonderful week,
Aleka

Passing time

I haven't been creative in any other way than to keep my 4 year old nephew busy this week. His teacher was ill so there's been no school and with the freezing cold playing outside is not an option. Here are the paper and pipe cleaners dolls we made, the green one is him, the red faced one is me and the one with red hand and feet is grandma. Super easy to make and he loved them too :-)
Wishing you all a great weekend

Monotyping - the kid version

I've been monotyping with my 4 year old nephew, well actually he's been doing it with a little help from me! I had a small piece of thick acrylic, he paints on it with temperas then we flip it over on the paper, press hard (he loves this part) and lift carefully. Ta da instant art! I'm definitely framing these, they turned out so great! Unlike the second page we did where he insisted on mixing ALL the colors together on the acrylic, that resulted in a brownish/greenish color not at all pretty.

Making plans

I have a few things I want to try out this weekend: a small bag, a papier mache pumpkin, a few bookmarks and maybe even a mouse. I hope I'll have the energy to go through with them all and post some photos of the results.
Small magazine, summer issue so beautiful.

For kids

Blip from Sean Mullen on Vimeo.

There is a channel on Vimeo for kids, I've spent nearly two hours watching videos. Funny, cute, simple, more elaborate they have everything. The one I picked made me laugh, a red blip and a blue blip take over the world. For more go here but I must warn you it's addictive!
